Text-To-Speech
The text-to-speech feature of the nüvi 260W means that device automatically calls out street names (saying turn right on Main Street instead of turn right in 200 feet.). This feature lets drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways.

The 4.3-inch backlit widescreen touchscreen on the nüvi 260W gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

   Not as accurate as some are saying

   My mother bought us this product after we went home (right down the road from Garmin Headquarters itself) and could not find a single place without help from friends and family. I hate getting lost to the point that I start getting mad, so I was anxious to get this!

   Some of the good things about this product is the touch screen and bells a whistles. You can customize the screen to fit your every whim (even have an Elf talk to you and watch a Christmas tree on the map instead of an arrow or car). The touch screen would work better if I didn’t have such fat fingers, but it works well enough. The volume of the device can get louder than most average levels of whatever you are listening to in your car. The 260w, being slightly larger than my iPod, packs away easily in the glove box when not in use.

   Some of the draw backs are that it can not hold a charge to save its life; it is not very accurate; and it can take a considerable amount of time acquire satellites. I will plug in the 260W and use it exclusively like that because if you were to charge it before hand, it will still lose power even while not in use. I have tried this out many times. I will fully charge it the night before, unplug it and then let it sit for the night. When I turn it on the next day, I am at 75%. No real reason to lose that much power when not in use.
   
   Accuracy is not great at all. I have been in an unfamiliar area, looking for a place to eat. It told me what I was looking for was directly in front of me, when there was NO WAY Applebee’s was sitting in the middle of the road. We ended up going elsewhere and found it as we were leaving the other place.
   
   The time it takes to acquire satellites can be annoying. It seems that, unless it has a direct view (i.e. it can not be blocked by your car roof, or large trees) it has a very hard time finding anything. It will work, but it has taken upwards of 15 minutes before it has told me I was going the wrong way.

   All in all, I am pretty happy with the product and I doubt I will be getting another GPS to replace this one any time soon. It really isn’t the best, but it could be much worse. The price for a product like this really can’t be beat, but do not expect miracles.

   This is the second Garmin I’ve owned. This one has a wider screen, which is nice. My old Garmin was a couple of years old and needed updated maps, which cost about $120. So I decided to just get a new Garmin which has the new maps on it already for the same price as the updates. Very pleased with this purchase. Would recommend to a friend.
